Choosing fans & appliances
For ceiling fans, size the blade span to the room: larger rooms need a larger span or more than one fan. DC motors run quieter and use less energy than traditional AC motors, and often add more speed settings. A reverse or seasonal mode pushes warm air down from the ceiling in winter. Fans with an integrated light save a separate ceiling fitting, so check the light's output and colour temperature on the product page. For bathrooms and kitchens, choose an extractor fan sized to the room's ventilation needs and check its suitability for damp areas.
